Do yall follow The Stuttering Foundation? I L-O-V-E them! I have quite a few children who stutter on my caseload. One particular kindergarten boy that I serve totally owns his stuttering. His first day of RTI, he sat down and said "My name is ____ and I am a stutterer". How precious?!?
He has made incredible progress this year with his stuttering goals and I thought it would be neat to share The Stuttering Foundation news letter with him. The news letter features kids artwork and writing in each publication and on their website each season.
My student decided that he wanted to draw a picture and write into the magazine. His picture is featured above. In his writing, he told some of his personal info, hobbies, and favorite speech strategies (slowing down). Once I submitted, The Stuttering Foundation sent me a very kind email. Then, they sent my student a personalized letter, copy of the news letter, and a book on stuttering. So cool!
My student was thrilled to get the packet of goodies. I read the letter to him and he thought it was awesome. In the letter, they specifically mentioned each of his hobbies and complimented his artwork. They talked about how his letter was helping other kids and gave him resources to explore further. It was so sweet!
I highly recommend this as an activity to complete with your students who stutter! It was extremely positive and built confidence in my little friend.
