Category Apps

I work on categories with a lot of my little ones (PK-1st). They get extra excited to do category sorting and naming on the ipad. Just like my other favorite apps, these are for free! Some have in-app purchase options but I the basic versions end up being just as great. Here is the list:

Sort it out 1 & 2
ABA Problem Solivng
Families 1
What Does Not Belong
Clean Up
NLC Autism
Let's Name Things
Where Do I Go?

Below is an in app screen shot and short description of how I use it :)

Do you have Sort It Out 1 and 2? They are awesome. It gives you two free category games per app. You sort the different items by dragging to the right spot.

The ABA Problem solving app is great for category exclusion. It asks "which one  does not belong?" and the child selects the one that doesn't go by tapping. I usually make them tell me which one  does not go with the others and why before letting them tap.

Clean up is another fun category sorting app.  You sort items by where they go....food in the shopping cart, toys in the toy box, and clothes in the closet. I pair it with printed visuals for good sentences "The _____ goes in the shopping cart" and make the child say the whole sentence before dragging to the right place.

This is a great Pre-K app. Families 1 works on category inclusion. It gives three pictures in the middle and then the child drags the picture that goes with the other three to the middle. Easy peasy. The pieces disappear until their are none left and then it gives you a great big smiley face when you are finished.

NLC Autism works on category inclusion. To play, you tap the category where the item at the bottom belongs. Another great easy find.

What Does Not Belong is another app for category exclusion. Again, make them use their words. Name the pictures that doesn't go. Why doesn't it go? There are some tricky ones on this app. Students can advance levels for free once they complete the basics for extra challenge!

Let's Name Things is a free super duper app. Its not super fun when just scrolling through the cards, but kids like to use it during games instead of a card stack. Great task for naming items within categories.

Ok I love this app! Its called Where Do I Go? The home set is free. To play drag the item at the bottom in to the right location. Then the item pops up in the room. Kind of cool and more motivating for the kids.

Hope this helps! Have fun categorizing!
