I work on sequencing with a lot of my kids. Its a great skill that links to the common core. Starting in kinder and first, they are expected to logically sequence and/or retell a story. I like to start working on sequencing using functional sequences. I have several printed card decks of sequences that the kids can order but we all know when it is in app form the kids are way more interested.
I have two favorite apps when it comes to sequencing:
Speech With Milo: Sequencing
iSequences Lite
Speech with Milo is a paid app and a bargain at $2.99. Totally worth it! This is why I love speech with Milo:
The cute main character Milo (and sometimes his friend Melvin) are in every sequence. This pictures are clear and engaging. There is an option to read each phrase to describe the picture.
The kids drag and drop the pictures into the correct order. Then the screen pauses. THIS IS THE BEST PART! I can have the kid use their good sentence to describe each picture before playing the video.
They can play the video of the sequence all in motion next. My speech kids love these videos. I feel like it really reinforces the sequence and it gives me time to jot down therapy notes! Win-win.
iSequence is also great and the free version rocks! Much like Milo, you start with 3-5 pictures to sequence.
The sequences are logical and clear. Some of the same characters are repeated. When you get the sequence correct a surprise picture with "yay" playing the background comes across the screen. So there is not enough time to do a sentence with each picture. However, they have a question after the sequence that gives picture options for "how do you think they will feel" or "what do you think will happen next". This is great for simple inferencing skills.
Pretty cute right? I love using the ipad to work on sequencing. I am not sure if these are available on other types of tablets. Do you have any favorite apps for working on sequencing? I'd love to hear about them!
